    A few worries about RWC

    Thursday, July 26, 2007, 07:04 AM [General]

Farrell.... Was this a big mistake ? Superb player at Rugby League, but struggling at Rugby Union!

To be fair, he has had to overcome injuries in the last 18 months or so, but I still feel it would've been better to have spent the time and effort in blooding some of the youngsters in this role. 4 years ago we achieved the impossible, we built a team specifically to win the RWC that year. What we needed to do since then was to build a squad to keep winning, but the majority of top players were allowed to either retire, or were discarded, only to be called back into service as a last resort.

Tindell.... Struggling to be fit for RWC, I don't think we should even consider including him in squad. Let him prove me wrong, but I think the odds are stacked against him recovering in time, and I wouldn't take him if he were not 100% fit.

Cohen.... One of my favourites in the last RWC, but he is one of the players that I feel has been allowed to drift out of the England squad. Is he injured ? ?

Catt.... One of the games most professional players. Heavily criticized at times, but keeps putting himself in the frame for big tournaments. Maybe his final fling in the RWC.

Dawson.... Great player, one of a kind, he will be hard to replace when he finally hangs up his boots. Like Catt I think maybe his last major tournament if he plays.

DALLAGLIO....This man is a freak of nature. Can think of no-one better to figurehead the England Squad. Only thing against him is his lack of pace. Can he last the tournament ? Only time will tell.

Grewcock.... Gonna miss his presence in the team, suspended until mid September, but I feel he should be named in the squad, by then we will know if we are in with a shout of defending title or not.

And finally..... Spare a thought for poor old Ben Kay, got stuck in the floods and had to spend his wedding anniversary stranded with only Martin Corry for company..........sweet dreams readers!

I notice you support any English man to pull on an English shirt. Does that mean you are anti any Welssh/Scottish/S African who puts on an English shirt. Think Prince Obolenski was a Russian

As I didn't pick the side I didn't have a plan. I think I would have played our seconds rather than the thirds. Good performance by English pack and scrum half - otherwise looked less than ordinary.

Other warm up games will be just as meaningless.

I think the fans always lose out when National sides field weaker teams. A lot of money is spent "on air tickets, accomodation and tickets to see the game, (not to mention BEER MONEY). S.A. fans ought to complain, if nothing is done about it, then match boycotts should be considered.
The whole idea of these tournaments is to ready the squad for the upcoming World Cup isn't it?
As for the S.A. players, could they recover mentally from a severe mauling by either Australia, or N.Z
